Helios special event lalal

Welcome to helios!

Helios is an indie game with a open world. Helios is a Action RPG, with an action based combat system.

Helios alpha 0.14

It has been quite some time since any updates were posted. The version posted is not the final version of the game, and will likely contain a lot of bugs.

Gameplay video

The Helios single player has been patched up and works great, since combat is not completely finished yet (you can currently only fight with a sword and shield) we won’t be releasing anything for now. Once the network features and bugs are completely fixed we will release a demo at our website.

To show you our progress over the past few weeks and an aim at the final game I recorded a new video of the actual gameplay. The interface (all the buttons, etc) will change soon, since we are waiting for the new GUI system in Unity 4.x we will have to postpone the GUI development for now.

* Gameplay is still likely to change (suggestions always welcome)

Crafting features

I decided to create a small video of the latest Helios craft features, using these crafting features the player can create new armor or weapons. In the near future I’ll create small mini-games for these features to make them a little more fun to do. This is all still just work in progress and is likely to change in the future.

Also the player has the ability to use forging but since this is not visually finished yet its left out of the video.

Combat video coming soon!

Combat system

I’ve been working on Helios for quite some time now and I’ve finally gotten down to the action combat system.
The system uses collision detection to define hits, combined with hit boxes on the monster, damage gets calculated. Swords have a refraction trail behind them that is generated at runtime.

When a monster is hit on the head 30% extra damage will be dealt. Also weapons can be enchanted to gain extra attributes such as knock back strength, fire strength, ice etc.

More updates next week!

Blog update 3

Its time for the 3rd Blog update

* Fishing system

Players can now fish at fishing spots (these are pointed out on the map). Once a fish is caught it can be cooking on a BBQ or in a cooking pot. When cooking on a BBQ (portable item) it will restore a small / medium amount of health. However when the items are comined in the cooking pot the effects will higly be multiplied.

* Mining system

Players can now mine at mining spots (these are pointed out at the map). Once ores have been collected the player can forge these ores into bars (ignots). Those metal bars can then be used to craft arrows, weapons or armor.

* Collecting system

Players can now collect materials at collecting spots (these are pointed out at the map). The player can collect items like mushrooms, twigs, moss, etc. Those items can also be used to craft and or cook new items.

* Area improvement

Areas can now be discoverd and give an additional XP boost to the player. When a player discoveres a new area he/she can use this as a new teleport location (if teleport area available in this location).
The city doors close at 20:00 and you won’t be able to enter the city anymore, however bribing a guard might just be an option.

* Chests

The world is covered with secret chests containing special items such as special cooking books with recipes, weapons, armor, potions and lots of gold!

* Network improvements

The network system has been improved to simplify future implementation but also to improve stability and speed.

* Auto party system

When 2 players in the world are fighting closer together they will auto. be placed in a party. This party will give the players and extra 30% experience bonus.

* Monster traps

When you’re fighting a skilled monster it would be very usefull to have some extra time to deal damage. By placing a trap a monster can run into the trap and get stuck. When the monster is stuck it will be very easy for the player to deal a great amount of damage. However traps can not be purchased and are hard to craft.

* Overall Interface improvements

The entire interface has been improved and simplified for the user. No icons have to be dragged from 1 place to another. For example while crafting the system scans through your inventory looking for craftable materials. When the system finds these materials it will create a list of all available items that can be crafted. When you find an item you like to create simply click the icon and start crafting!
